Taking a play directly out of The Horizon Report’s prediction of increased Social Operating Systems (SOS) (central databases where all of your info is located, instead of having to re-enter/re-post it each time you “join” a new website), DataPortability released a great video putting the term SOS into context and making it easier to understand for the layman.
DataPortability - Connect, Control, Share, Remix from Smashcut Media on Vimeo.
What’s interesting about DataPortability is that it feels very much like a grass-roots campaign for better “interneting”: they don’t have a product per se, just an idea, a call to action, and are already lining up some very serious vendors for street cred (see Yahoo, Google). Watch the video for yourself and let me know if you’re convinced. There’s surprisingly little actual implementation at this point, which adds to the excitement in some way, as if you’re getting in on the ground floor, when this radical concept of organizing your life is still just an idea being talked about amongst tech circles.
